Week 12 of #The100DayProject ended with a rainbow self-portrait in support of America becoming the 21st country to legalised same-sex marriage. Only 175 countries to go!
Other project notes; mixing a vibrant purple continues to mystify me. I considered ditching purple altogether but instead (Google) researched to see what I could find. What I discovered was a super informative video by Will Kemp that very clearly demonstrates how to mix various purples using two blues (Phthalo Blue and Ultramarine Blue, which I use) and a variety of reds. And that's where the magic to my problem lies! I'd wrongly assumed any red with these blues would do. Not so. The red I use (Cadmium Red) doesn't create vibrant purples at all even though on it's own it's a really vibrant red. When mixed it creates a muted grey looking purple - see the bottom two stripes of my rainbow portrait above. Check out Kemp's video here for more. And since a constraint of my project was to only use the five paints listed in my first #The100DayProject post here, I'm not including additional reds in the last two weeks although I'm happy I learned this during it.
A good week for love and learning!
