I'm back again for this weeks books and zines series with opshop gold! The Sun: Our Nearest Star, written by Franklin M. Branley and illustrated by Helen Borten. First published in 1963 by Adam and Charles Black - London. This reprint is from 1967 and as you can see from the protective cover it's an ex-library copy. Found in a small town country op shop a few years ago for a mere .40 cents. Yep you read that right!
This was my introduction to Helen's illustrations and I've been smitten ever since. Thankfully I'm not alone spotting recent reprints of two of her books by Flying Eye Books at local bookshops for new generations to enjoy. Theres also a fascinating read about Helen and her career change on the Fishink blog if you'd like to discover more.
